No Kickstarter campaign is complete without stretch goals, and Hex Gambit’s will be no exception! Only our first goal will be revealed when we launch July 25th, but it’s one I think we all really want to unlock: House Rules!
We always want to add cool features like these, but they tend to get cut when dev time is running short. Funding this stretch goal guarantees enough time to implement fun variables for non-league matches. These will be perfect for customizing your own tournaments.
- Custom turn timeouts: A heavily requested feature for every asynchronous game we’ve made.
- Variable Victory Point goals: Maybe you prefer a longer match with more time for twists and turns? Or a micro-game where one misstep is fatal?
- Player handicaps: Have a friend that’s not quite on your level? Give them an edge to keep things interesting.
Hex Gambit is coming to Kickstarter July 25th! Kicking in a few extra dollars to your pledge or getting a friend to back with you are a few ways you can help us reach these goals faster. The five minions we’ve shown off so far are just the tip of the iceburg. Two more will be added during Early Access for 7 total, giving you 21 different minion combinations for your teams on launch day! One of those Early Access minions is the sniper.
Our Outwitters players have probably been expecting a sniper to show up in Hex Gambit eventually, but can you believe he has two eyes?! You’ll find he plays a bit differently in Hex Gambit. Rather than a set range for his attack, this sniper shoots infinitely along straight paths, so he can hit you from clear across the map if he gets a good angle. The shots do less damage (relatively) than in Outwitters, but they’re very effective at picking off runners. He can also fire special “tapping” rounds that will snipe a Victory Point off your enemy’s crystal pillar from afar.

The excellent Mike Reagan (our composer of choice since Outwitters) will be returning to help us bring Hex Gambit to life! I’m celebrating with a stroll through all the other great stuff he’s done for us.
As our email subscribers already know, Hex Gambit‘s Kickstarter goes live July 25th!
You’ll be able to grab the game at 30% below the final store price, or chip in a little extra to help us make Hex Gambit truly awesome. The cool perks you’ll find below, like free DLC for life and metal minions, won’t be available anywhere else! We’ll also have Early Bird discounts for our Deluxe Edition, so be sure to sign up for our email reminder if you haven’t already.
Here’s a peek at the rewards we’ll have on offer (click to enlarge):
Alex and I are extremely excited to announce that Hex Gambit will be targeting both Steam and the Nintendo Switch™ console on launch day next year. The Nintendo Switch™ is a perfect fit for our multiplayer focus, allowing you to easily gather friends around the TV for a couple of matches, or knock out a few turns while you’re out doing your thing. We can’t wait to pass some Joy-Con™ controllers around the living room and make Hex Gambit a game night staple!
The Nintendo Switch™ Edition of Hex Gambit will be included as a reward option in our Kickstarter campaign next month. Click here to sign up for an email reminder if you haven’t already.
Alex and I had some fun coming up with unique rewards for next month’s Hex Gambit Kickstarter. One exclusive reward is the Deluxe Edition of the game, which we’ve already announced will be the only way to get free DLC for life in Hex Gambit. Another, more immediate bonus included with Deluxe is this Legendary Pillar skin that you can turn off and on. Like the Deluxe Edition itself, this will never be available for purchase after Kickstarter, so it’s sure to be the envy of all your launch day opponents.

Short clip of a Defender’s pillar tap from our upcoming Kickstarter video. I’ve been learning some new cinematic tools, and now I finally have a decent workflow for gifs. No more 480p videos!

Unreal’s Sequencer for capturing and editing cinematics is awesome. I’ll try to have a finished teaser with more minion footage together soon. Here’s a tiny taste for now.

We have a big announcement coming that’s not quite ready for the blog today, so instead here’s a Motivator going woowoowoowoowoowoowoowoowoowoowoowoo.
I’m watching a LOT of Youtube to learn the ins and outs of Unreal’s cinema scene editor. Hoping to have some pretty wicked machinema skills for the Hex Gambit Kickstarter video, and to improve these WIP clips with a little actual camera work.
