The soldier color morphs are in! The faction you choose to play as in the league will determine which color your team is, and playing 2v2 will give your partner the secondary paint jobs to the right. If things go smoothly, maybe we’ll have time to give you guys even more control over which version of your faction colors you prefer. Almost ready to move on to a new minion!

The soldier hasn’t been granted the power to move yet, so he’s stuck on this space for now.

These soldier are sporting their formal normal maps and some fresh duds from our Neptis faction line. Still need some work on the metal and plastic materials, but he’s looking good in-game.

Textures are messy business. Especially your first textures for your first models in your first 3d game. I think I’ve redone this guy 4 or 5 different ways, and you can see things start to get a little garbled around the eyes. Learning a lot, though.

Here’s the basic, untextured soldier for Hex Gambit. Next I’ll be adding all the fancy glows and material effects in Unreal.

The Soldier class in Hex Gambit is a versatile fighter. Up close, his Multislash ability lets him distribute the damage from his melee however he wants among surrounding enemies. Dump all 3 damage into one target, or soften up 3 different enemies for 1 damage each. He also brings two other abilities to the table, because each minion in Hex Gambit has three!

The real stars of Hex Gambit will, of course, be the minions!
In our previous strategy game, Outwitters (with which you may be familiar), you’re able to choose from a number of different races that are largely symmetrical, save for one very expensive special unit. Depending how your opponent plays, you may never get a chance to use that special unit in a match.
In Hex Gambit, we’re going for something more personalized and asymmetrical.
Your actual loadout for a match of Hex Gambit will involve picking a Captain to determine your bonus powers, then choosing any combination of 5 minion types to comprise your squad. We’re aiming for 7 total minion types to pick from at launch, giving you 21 different team combinations to explore. That variety will increase exponentially with each new minion we add.
Another cool feature of Hex Gambit’s minions: they’re all the same cheap price to spawn! So whoever you choose to bring with you, you can send them in as soon as you need them without having to save up. This extra freedom is balanced by unit stock: you can add 2 of the ultra-durable brutes to your crew, or bring 4 of the standard soldiers.
Check back next week for more!

I’m still learning the ins and outs of the Unreal Engine, but our Hex Gambit stadium is starting to look a lot more lively.

Looking a lot like something out of Dinosaur Comics, Lolli’s bonus powers resemble his sense of style: ridiculous. He’s designed to be the Scrambler of Hex Gambit, so if you like messing with your opponent’s game pieces, he’s your man.
