I don't think you attacked too soon so much as you gave up too many units at once.

on a single spawn map like this, if they can kill 2 of your units and spawn 1 of their own, reliably, they'll eventually win just by sheer numbers. In that sense you either should have held off your attack until you could reinforce it, or regrouped when it was apparent that it was going to fail instead of pressing on and sacrificing two soldiers just to get the base to 1 HP with no backup.
