Our clan seems to be somewhat more active, mostly due to fresh blood. I think the biggest thing would be more and better advertising, since I had no idea Wolfpack (or anyone else) had an open recruitment until I stumbled across the thread while bored and browsing the forums.

Maybe PM A&A about putting a thing in the digest?

I do like this idea, but what we need are fresh clans. No one wants to join a clan that has been sputtering for the last year because the leaders aren't active.

I believe something needs to be done with the game or with the way clans can be incorporated. I think once that happens, we will find that there are enough potential members to fill any clans that come up. That's my hope.

Here's what I am worried about:

Diamond League and Wolfpack are the most active, then we have Good Game, Anonymous, and iPro. If things keep going the way they have been, we might only have a few (3 or 4) really active clans with a majority of the people who would be interested in a clan. This is fine and dandy for now, but I would LOVE to see more diversity. Unfortunately, this game doesn't have a team-based competitive nature that fosters a clan environment.

When I played Halo PC, there were probably 50+ clans, and all of them wanted to be the best. There was a clan league that had monthly rankings for clans and their members - it was awesome. Clans would challenge each other daily; you could have 1v1 Slayer or 8v8 CTF or whatever, and the system would give the clans and players points depending on the result (kinda like the Outwitters league system, but with clans). There was no matchmaking system built into the game, so being a part of a clan was the only way to get any sort of competition.

Right now, we only have small little clan tournaments. These are fun. but are tedious to set up and there's not much variety. What we need to do in order to bring in more clan leaders (and their clans they might create) and foster clan activity can be two things:

1) Have OML build clans into the game. I doubt this would happen unless it's in a future (Outwitters 2) release.

2) We build some sort of 3rd party system to track clan vs. clan activity.

As far as (2) goes:

One thought (just came to my mind) would be to mine the data that OSN pulls in from league games. OSN already has the clans and members in it, so we could filter the games where two different clan members play. These match-ups are random, though, so you never know when you might get matched up with an opposing clan, etc. etc.

Alternatively (or additionally, which could work), we could have an external system where people report games that two clans have agreed will count as "league" games and go that route. This option, I think, would foster more competition between clans because you can actively challenge opponents. (I'm working on something like this in my free time to see if it's viable.)

I just hope that the community would welcome an increase in clan activity and be drawn to it. I understand that people like just playing the game where it is, but I truly think that clans add another dimension to is, and they do have a great potential for the future of competitiveness in this game.

RE: Clan Activity Discussion
I think the clan battle with wolfpack was fun. And it was fast as tournaments go, too. If we had more clans it would be fun to do lots of things like that. And the larger league system you mention too. Step 1 is attracting people to the forum. Step 2 is getting more people to start and administer clans. Our clan forum is very active and I think that is key for members to be invested.

RE: Clan Activity Discussion
Some things for thought:
Splitting up clans probably would work best in theory, but wouldn't be beneficial as pretty much everyone, I think, wouldn't want to leave their current clan.
I think for future clan battles, I was thinking something like tennis, having
x 1v1 players, playing similar skill levels
And x 2v2 teams, "".
We could do something smaller for a clan tournament, like how the Davis Cup plays it:
With 2-4 players, depending on whether or not you bring a 2v2 team,
Players ABCD with the setup
AvB
BvA
CDvCD
AvA
BvB
Or something like that, only 5 matches, like the Davis Cup, each representing a clan.

RE: Clan Activity Discussion
I like Doodat's idea. It gives players like myself who are more 2v2 oriented a chance to contribute (I always choke on my 1v1 games). It would also be fast and easy, and smaller/less active clans such as iPro could participate.

I know joining a clan has drastically improved both my skill and activity level, and would strongly encourage any serious (or even not-so-serious) player to join one as well, so any way we can promote the clans, we should.

RE: Clan Activity Discussion
I actually had never thought about doing something like that doodat. Sounds like it would be a fantastic way to go with it. I am down for pretty much any way for the clans to stay active and keep this fantastic community alive. I joined this community a couple months after Outwitters launched and have never regretted my decision to be a part of it.

The Wolfpack/Diamond Leaugue battle was awesome. My only complaint would be that I only had one game to play!

Diamond would be cool with doing whatever. Set something up and PM and we can work out the details Smile

RE: Clan Activity Discussion
I've had success messaging people in game, telling them about the forums and clans. You'd be surprised how many people don't know about the forums. It took me a few months to stumble upon it, after one of A&A's tournament promotions.

I know that several wolfpack clan members have joined that way. $till was one of them. I told him he should join after playing an epic game with him in league (it was actually a terrible game looking back, but hey, clever league Angel )
