The best players are agressive rone The defensive and safe ones are rare, and they also know very well how to attack (terence is the best exemple).
There are three steps I remember ( I come from low gifted) : Gifted: agressive but accompanied by all errors, misunderstings of the maps, etc. Master: You improved, so you know attacking is risky, so you don't do it anymore and concentrate on being safe and wit efficient. ST: You start to set up strategies to make good attacks, and don't just wait for your opponents to make mistakes or allow you to attack easily. Not before!
