Community Tournament (Congratulations Alvendor on 1st Place!)

Hooray, a Tournament!

Hi all. I thought it would be fun to run a tournament for the Outwitters community here. This tournament is intended to be a proving ground that is separate from, and to an extent beyond, the scope of the built-in league system. Members of all 5 leagues are welcome to participate! The only requirement is that you have completed your placement matches and been placed in a league.

Tournament Format

1. 16 person, single elimination bracket, seeded by league, and then by points
2. Each match is best 2 out of 3. Each player will start a game with their opponent (so there will be two games being played simultaneously), and each player can choose their own map (maps do not have to be the same).
3. If a third game is required, the lower seeded player will choose the map, and the higher seeded player will start the game on that map.
4. The winning player should report their win by posting in this thread the details of the match.

How to Sign Up

If you would like to participate in this tournament, please declare your interest by posting in this thread. Please include:

1. Your Outwitters username
2. Your league assignment
3. Your current number of league points
4. Your current division rank (will be used to reconcile ties)

Official start of this tournament is TBD depending on interest. But let's see if we can close sign-ups by Thursday August 2nd (1 week from today). May the best fish, robot, or bear win!

This isn't HA GG, the 3 wit first turn won't do much since the extra 2 would just carry over onto the next turn

I say first two games is fine (random map, switch off going first). If it goes to third game, the higher seed should be allowed to choose EITHER the map or to go first. If they choose to go first, opponent picks the map ?

Hah....yeah, good point. Anyway, I think what you suggest about the third game is a great idea, I think I'll implement that rule. However there isn't a way to make the map random, right?

By the way, is "the higher seed" #1 or #16? I'm not really an NCAA guy, so I truly dont know which you mean.

I like the idea of letting player 2 pick the map, but it does cause extra delay.

Higher seed generally refers to stronger of two players, so 1 is highest.

Higher seed is the lower number. So, 1st seed in your example.

By the way all, please continue to give me your feedback on how best to mitigate FTA. I'll look at what the majority feeling is once signups are over and make a decision based on that.

I agree that the second player should get to pick the map. First two games alternate who goes first. I don't really care what happens third game since there's no way to really make it fair. I guess higher seed player can just choose like awpertunity suggested.
