P1 can capture 3 of the 4 wit space on turn 1, leaving p2 at a significant disadvantage. Fix that and it would be a good map.
Thanks Harv. Moved spawn space and shifted solider back one hex. Thought a little more room from wit space was better.

Although you want feedback from someone more "qualified" than me, that looks a lot better and fairer Smile

RE: Outwitters Map Creator 1.2
Does the average map rating for an author include all the maps or are fun and unfinished maps excluded?

Fun as well as unfinished maps are excluded, that's correct.

RE: Outwitters Map Creator 1.2
Harti, is there a way to rename maps? I named my first map (somewhat foolishly, perhaps) "First Map (To Be Named)" with the intent to name it once I had a feel for how it would play and all that. Now I can't find a "rename" button Tongue
Also, is there a way to delete maps?

Edit: I just saw the little warning under the "Map Name" section, stating that map names can't be changed. Oh well Tongue I should've read the fine print. Still, is there a way to delete maps?

RE: Outwitters Map Creator 1.2
No, there is no option to rename a map.

The application was originally meant to be a map creator, I only added community-based features like lists and rating because I felt like it.
With the application thriving it's also causing "obligations" to add certain functionality. I'm not completely certain to what extent I'd want to implement such feature suggestions. The big issue is that - except for the map description (which I cramped into the sidebar) - everything you see on the page was planned layout-wise so that it goes in a tidy, compact and user-friendly, yet powerful UI.

What happens if I want to extend the functionality now - like adding a delete or rename option for maps -, is that I most likely don't want to put these into the existing UI (because it doesn't fit into the layout) so there would have to be another screen to manage one's maps. With enough time (and passion) I might create login functionality someday - a thing which I wanted to avoid for various reasons (overcomplicating easy things) - but that's most unlikely to happen within this quartal of 2013.

How bout click or tap on the title to rename it like with description editing, but not double click because on iDevices, a double tap is a zoom in and out function on safari.

RE: Outwitters Map Creator 1.2
There really needs to be a way to contact map creators on OMC. It's frustrating spotting critical errors with maps and then not being able to point it out. The funny thing is this is often the case on quite a lot of the highly rated maps (which makes me think ratings are pretty meaningless and that people just rate without really thinking). The top authors section also encourages "hate rating" as you pointed out earlier. I suggest you remove this so people feel less inclined to "hate rate" and boost themselves above others in the pseudo top author "ladder" you provide. Ideally I would use a rating system similar to IMDB which weighs ratings given by a user scaled based on their average rating. As you might imagine, this makes things a lot more fair. Someone who hate rates a lot might have an average given rating of 1/5. This would make a 1 star rating from them actually be a 3 star rating and a 2 star rating from them actually more like a 4 star rating. Conversely, someone who rates everyone extremely generously may have a 4 star average rating. In turn, a 4 star rating from this individual would be worth 3 stars, a 4.5 star rating might only be worth 4 stars, and a 2 star rating perhaps 1 star. Obviously this is a lot more work though so I don't expect you to do this. I do think that more websites should adopt this kind of rating system though and am surprised that I haven't seen it elsewhere. o.O

I do understand that there becomes an issue of moderation if you provide a comments section though. Perhaps instead you could implement a link to PM the map creator at OML? I don't know how difficult this would be, but I have a feeling it wouldn't be too much of a stretch (since you ask people to use their forum name). Obviously if there is a disparity between OMC name and forum name it won't work, but it's better than nothing and if people followed your instructions it will work as intended.

And you certainly succeeded! Anyway, as you imply, and correctly so, you aren't obligated to do anything more as far as community features go so what I've mentioned above isn't that crucial, just something to keep in mind. For all practical purposes I just ignore ratings entirely anyway and just browse maps which also works fine ^^

Well, I'll ask Imperial what he thinks, but I actually play tested games with him (Piko, that's what he meant by "play testing")* and I did try strategies like getting a mobi into the cave. It's not practical because it leaves your base too open when devoting that many wits to attack in the cave. I guess if you get into a prolonged stalemate situation then the Adorables player (against a different team) could start harassing in the cave, but then that just means it's the job of the other team to pressure the Adorables player at their base to prevent that from occurring. In other words, I don't think it's a problem from test games and further speculation. Of course, ideally we would be able to play real games of this and other OMC maps ^^

* Without FoW unfortunately, but we did try some scenarios where we assumed that we didn't know where a particular attack was coming from and seeing whether we could stop it anyway.

RE: Outwitters Map Creator 1.2
First off, thanks for your very detailed feedback. I really appreciate it!

This is quite intriguing. There is an issue to this, though, namely I would like to avoid storing user-based data as much as possible.
I could implement this suggestion (probably in another way, though, because I don't think that a hate-rater's rating should be worth 4 stars at all. Ignoring ratings from obvious hate-raters seems more like the way to go; or using statistical tools to determine outliers and make these stand out less) by forcing people to create user profiles to interact with the page. However, this would drastically decrease the already low amount of activity, both in terms of people rating maps as well as people creating maps.

I don't have a good feeling about requiring people to enter their user ID. This usually comes with a long description how to retrieve it by looking at the URL, and some people on the Internet unfortunately still don't know what an URL is. This is sad but true. Anyway, I haven't found a way to display a forum profile by providing a name in the URL, I've only seen it work with an actual user ID.

If I only knew more about this forum's software, I would probably already have developed a plugin that automatically made outwitters://... copypastes actual clickable URLs, for instance, or I would know how to make such a call to get the userID by username from the OMC script. But alas I don't.

I did the same thing, naming my first map "1st try".
It would be nice to change its name.

Wow, this thread was buried on page 4!

@Harti can you fix the top bar into place like It was before? I try to zoom in on my phone to start building and BAM! I'm blinded.

Crap.

@GG I just realized I named one of my maps the almost exact same name. (Corridors ~ Corridor) Sorry.
