RE: Clan Activity Discussion

No one wants to join a clan that has been sputtering for the last year because the leaders aren't active. I believe something needs to be done with the game or with the way clans can be incorporated. I think once that happens, we will find that there are enough potential members to fill any clans that come up. That's my hope. Here's what I am worried about: Diamond League and Wolfpack are the most active, then we have Good Game, Anonymous, and iPro. If things keep going the way they have been, we might only have a few (3 or 4) really active clans with a majority of the people who would be interested in a clan. This is fine and dandy for now, but I would LOVE to see more diversity. Unfortunately, this game doesn't have a team-based competitive nature that fosters a clan environment. When I played Halo PC, there were probably 50+ clans, and all of them wanted to be the best. There was a clan league that had monthly rankings for clans and their members - it was awesome. Clans would challenge each other daily; you could have 1v1 Slayer or 8v8 CTF or whatever, and the system would give the clans and players points depending on the result (kinda like the Outwitters league system, but with clans). There was no matchmaking system built into the game, so being a part of a clan was the only way to get any sort of competition. Right now, we only have small little clan tournaments. These are fun. but are tedious to set up and there's not much variety. What we need to do in order to bring in more clan leaders (and their clans they might create) and foster clan activity can be two things: 1) Have OML build clans into the game. I doubt this would happen unless it's in a future (Outwitters 2) release. 2) We build some sort of 3rd party system to track clan vs. clan activity. As far as (2) goes: One thought (just came to my mind) would be to mine the data that OSN pulls in from league games. OSN already has the clans and members in it, so we could filter the games where two different clan members play. These match-ups are random, though, so you never know when you might get matched up with an opposing clan, etc. etc. Alternatively (or additionally, which could work), we could have an external system where people report games that two clans have agreed will count as "league" games and go that route. This option, I think, would foster more competition between clans because you can actively challenge opponents. (I'm working on something like this in my free time to see if it's viable.) I just hope that the community would welcome an increase in clan activity and be drawn to it. I understand that people like just playing the game where it is, but I truly think that clans add another dimension to is, and they do have a great potential for the future of competitiveness in this game. |
