RE: The Soon To Be Elite Tournament - Season 1 - Discussion Thread
Round 1: Foundry outwitters://viewgame?id=ahRzfm91dHdpdHRlcnNnYW1lLWhyZHIVCxIIR2FtZVJvb20YgICA4LSs1AsM
Turn 1 - I start out with my standard Foundry opening (which I think is the standard Foundry opening). Turn 3 - I see the level of aggression waiting for me. I have a bunch of wits, so I decide to keep them back for a scrambler. Looking down the road, I realize that I'll lose the scrambler, my sniper, and whatever I scramble to runners, but I know at the end of the melee I'll be left with my heavy, and my opponent will have nothing. After that it's just get a few soldiers and attack the middle. Foundry is a tough map to learn the in's and out's of. It's not bad to be aggressive, but this strategy was not a good one. Sacrificing your heavy leaves your base wide open. It's a good idea to involve your sniper. The really strange move was moving your medic up, I guess you were thinking that I might half-kill a unit and then you can heal it, but even if that's the case you can move your medic up next turn to do it. You essentially waste a wit moving it up, and another moving it back. Round 2: Reaper-bye Round 3: Long Nine outwitters://viewgame?id=ahRzfm91dHdpdHRlcnNnYW1lLWhyZHIVCxIIR2FtZVJvb20YgICA4NSZ8AoM Kind of a crazy game, if you don't like the sight of dying mobi's, best not watch this one. Turns 1 - 7 is my usual startup, set up some defense while saving for a mobi. At the end of turn 7 I considered blocking my sniper, knowing if he had two runners in range he could doubletap it, but I gambled that he didn't. This proved to be a mistake. Turns 9 and 11 I set up my own runners hoping to do the same thing. On Turn 13, I couldn't see his sniper, but I gambled it was in the usual spot and double-tapped it to even things up. Then I realized that I had the wits to kill two soldiers, and then mobi in my heavy to kill a 3rd. This seemed like a winner for me, but OOPS, I moved my mobi and only then realized I had already used its mobiiing. Now I'm in trouble. Dead mobi. I decided to press my attack and see where it got me, maybe look for an opening to kill his mobi. When I couldn't get it, I decided to hit his base for 2, maybe put him on the defensive looking out for a mobi-snipe, even though I was a long way from affording one. Then I retreat. Turn 23 I make another mistake, I have enough for a mobi and sniper, but I get impatient, and I "gamble" that he doesn't have a runner at the bottom of the board, and I mobi/snipe his advanced soldier. If I watched the replay sufficiently though, I would have known there was one down there. Now I'm in bigger trouble. Another dead mobi. Turn 26 is AllIdoisRush's first mistake, I don't think he realized I moved a soldier down. Very careful observation of the replay could've shown that my D7 soldier went from 4hp to 3hp, giving a clue that it had actually moved, but this is very easy to miss. Another dead mobi, and now the match has turned back to even. I think I was a dead duck if that mobi stuck around. Now it's back to both sides building up arms; I make sure to get a mobi out quickly and make a show of using it, I want him to know I have a mobi so he stays on the defensive, because I still feel vulnerable in this match. I decide to finish the match with two mobis, use one to clear the soldier in front of the base, the other to snipe. I'm one wit short on turn 39 when he puts another soldier in front, so I try and distract him by tagging his wit space. The next turn I have just enough, and I finish it. A really well-played game though, my only advice is that you had me on the ropes a couple of times, all you needed to do was keep pressing I think. Round 4: Thorn Gulley Round 5: Peekaboo Round 6: Sweetie Plains Round 7: Foundry Round 8: Sharkfood Island Round 9: Glitch GC name: amoffett11 1v1 2v2 with .Memories. and 2v2 random Until you stalk and overrun you can't devour anyone |
