Well, don't move your units away from the direct line to your base. On this map, it is very important to get units defending that "tunnel" as soon as possible. Ideally, you'd have 4HP soldiers and/or 4/5HP Heavies on the two vertical hexes next to your base or in the middle, leaving your opponent only one hex to attack from. You'd want to do this as quickly as possible, probably starting your first turn.
