RE: Mobi Style: Long Nine Strategy
I really like the idea of making the Mobi push with a back-up sniper. I usually don't manage to amass enough wits to bring a second sniper and still have enough momentum for my main attack, but it seems to work really well - I need to try that out some time.
On that particular game: I think holding off the southern pushes would have been much harder, if your opponent had brought along a Scrambler instead of a sniper which costs nearly as much to walk over to the middle and arrives earlier. As long as he's alive, my opponent will be reluctant to approach from that pathway.I used to think that it's okay to trade the predeployed sniper for 2 runners (8 wits to move them there and attack), because you can't really prevent him from taking your top +wit space and save your sniper against certain openings. But your logic to protect the sniper makes sense, since a Sniper there is very hard to replace. I'm not really sure anymore. Aaaah damn you for making me think self-critically about my strategies! Also with the 8 wits for player 2 around the corner it should be much less of an investment to keep the sniper alive I hope.
