RE: Last post wins.
It's physically impossible for the table to float to the moon and back on its own, and there is evidence for that, otherwise scientists would simply count it as a prediction. For a start, the table has mass and therefore needs thrust equal to its mass to fly/ float. Next, it would have to fly through the wall/ door of your room/ house (presuming the door is closed) which is again physically impossible. Evidence? If that was then we'd all be dead, scorched at the centre of the earth.
So to argue against that, the fact that we are alive proves that the table can't fly to the moon and back. But using your idea in another thought: How can we be sure that our memories are real? How can we be sure of anything? (Okay fine that was rhetorical. We can't.) Therefore the table could fly to the moon and back *cue 'THAT'S PURE GENIUS....NOT REALLY!' face* Once a master of nothing, now a noob to pretty much everything. Hiatus resolved. RE: Last post wins.
Technically, the table could go through the wall but its so unlikely its pretty much impossible but it doesn't matter since the table can't fly the first place

But we cannot prove it. |

For example, you would need an opposing force stronger than the force of gravity being exerted on the table for it to fly, and we know that the table can't generate a force because it's stationary - which means that it can only move if something else exerts a force on it.(12-23-2013 01:47 AM)Wildt4lon Wrote: It's physically impossible for the table to float to the moon and back on its own, and there is evidence for that, otherwise scientists would simply count it as a prediction. RE: Last post wins.
Ah, but you must assume the table is still there. But you cannot say with certainty that the table is there unless you open the door. And even then, all that you know is that it was there before you shut the door and after you opened it again. You must ASSUME that it is still there when you can't see it. That's what science does. Make educated guesses as to what is most likely. It is most likely that the table stayed there, but it could have teleported or flew to the moon and back again right before you opened the door.

RE: Last post wins.
Jchris, what your taking about sounds just like quantum mechanics and it is science. But tables are way too big to have quantum mechanical effects. If were talking about electrons, then they would be very much like your flying table. You can't know were it is until you look at it.

RE: Last post wins.
It is sort of like the old if a tree falls in a forest, but no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? Well you can't prove that it does without being around to hear, making it impossible for you to prove it one way or the other.

RE: Last post wins.
If you want to play that way, you can't prove anything.
You can't prove that you cannot prove something, because I wasn't there to witness the disproving. Doowhat? Doodat? Okey:3 1v1 - Peak #32 // Current #56 as AlliDooisRush 2v2 - w/jesusfuentesh #7 2v2 - w/baustin #17 // w/Juslas #85 // Randoms #38 |

RE: Last post wins.
Exactly! So science is just finding the most probable route. Which is what I said to begin with.

RE: Last post wins.
But how can you prove that thats the most probable way, then?
For all we know (or don't know in this case) there could be a better way but that is just as not provable (12-23-2013 09:37 AM)jchris98 Wrote: It is sort of like the old if a tree falls in a forest, but no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? Thats like saying if you shoot a piece of paper with a gun and the bullet doesn't make a hole, did it hit the paper? Obviously you missed and you can't say you didn't just because you didn't see the bullet. I hear there's a secret Mobi hidden here somewhere… |
