Yay! Up to #29. Unfortunately, as I said in the bug thread, I'm going to stop playing for awhile. The crashing is making the game very unpleasant to play.

I'm guessing the matchmaking engine is widening its search for opponents the longer you have been in the queue. Could it be that you started the game and had to wait quite long and then got matched with fluffy/clever?

I've had instances when I had to wait more than 24h to get a game and then it was against an opponent well below who I usually play.

Do these rankings take into account activity? Ie, do inactive players get removed?

I'm guessing inactives only get removed via everyone else rising up. I just had a match against joe 123951, who is ranked #67, and he currently only has 12 wins.

I have to say though, while the algorithm may not be perfect, it does do pretty darn good overall. Several of the new arrivals to the top 100 are some of the toughest opponents I've seen in the game, and almost every match I have is a good challenge.

I'm not positive because I don't design the actual algorithms, but I believe who you beat is a lot more important than how many people you've beaten in our matchmaking.

As for Super-Titans getting matched to Fluffy players, the system spends a certain amount of time trying to match you to a player of similar skill, then it goes into "hurry up and find somebody" mode, and just does the best it can with whoever else is looking for a game.

I've had instances when I had to wait more than 24h to get a game and then it was against an opponent well below who I usually play.

This is how it works. Given that a lot top players are pretty active *and* usually are at their game limit, there's the chance you might not find someone right when you hit 'find match'. After a certain amount of time the league system will widen it's search and accept players from different leagues to give the players *something* to play instead of indefinitely sitting there.
