For example, 1v1 gifted against poweewee is not the same as getting paired with a gifted 1v1 player, that gifted player paired with other master 2v2 randoms playing poweewee and Alvendor, or Alvendor and Natichux. The two randoms have a better chance of winning than the 1v1 player does. (09-02-2013 04:25 AM)Pastil* Wrote: well its clear that my example was exaggerated but its only to emphasize my point. Really? Do people really not see that pairing the random pairs against arranged pairs isnt fair? |

It's usually not good to exaggerate when trying to make a point..

I assume random and arranged share a common hidden ranking system. If the matchmaking system matches opponents that each have a fairly equal chance of winning, what's so bad about matching different types of opponents? A random team should typically have more skilled players vs an arranged team because of the randomness. It is like a 1v1 match between a player that always uses veggies vs a player that always uses adorables. The veggie player probably has more general skill given that the special is harder to ise effectively.

My nose will bleed if I try to explain it more. xD And also I'm being repetitive with my words because of my low vocabulary which makes reading my arguements sucky. well anyway on exaggerating when making point~ I don't think its bad. In fact, thats how I usually convey(?) what I'm trying to say. An example would be to fight a flyweight boxer against a super flyweight boxer (WBA standards) well thats not much considering the gap is about 3-4 pounds. then imagine pairing a flyweight against a heavyweight. not fair right? well the key here is the "not much" in the fight on flyweight vs super flyweight. i used the heavyweight vs flyweight comparison to enlarge the "not much" on the flyweight vs super flyweight. so even if its "not much" there is an advantage for the super flyweight so why not just pair the flyweight with another flyweight. |

RE: 2v2 random: why it really sucks. A lot.
I'm perhaps saying something stupid but...
Arranged teams and random teams have the same hidden rating calculating system. So if an arranged team is in gifted, that means they have a gifted level. You and your partner are in gifted league. Why would the arranged team be theorically better? If they are supposed to be better because they know each other, then they have to be in master. And so the gifted random team won't meet the "advantaged" team. So, surely arranged team can be better than random (and from my huge experience in 2v2 with a lot of guys, I can say the difference isn't big at all until super titan), but I don't see the problem as for matchmaking. You can ask a... (drawing by Chemoeum) |

I don't know, of course at the very top, arranged teams are better, but it's not as drastic as you seem to emphasize. You are right to say that it's unfair, but I haven't seen a single fair matchup in 1v1.

RE: 2v2 random: why it really sucks. A lot.
There is no matchup that is completely fair. Skill levels will always vary, and you can't organize so that it's always the "best" race playing against the same race on a certain map. Granted, there are more variables in 2v2 random, but your point was that it wasn't fair. Nothing really is fair.
