Shot outside of the board?

I just lost on sharkfood island to a sniper who either shot through 2 of my characters or shot my base around the outside of the board.

Is this right?

The top hex you can shoot on on SFI and Skullduggery.

For some reason OML think its balanced to have snipers do this on two maps but not be able to shoot over void hex spaces on all other maps.

Seems strange to me but now I know it's possible I need to be more careful, particularly against the adorables who can get a sniper there a lot quicker.

He means on sweet tooth you can't shoot over the void, and 2v2 maps you can't.
