You'll find that many of your initial games will time out, but once you get placed, the people will play much more regularly (at least until you get to high masters or ST, at which point the games slow down again).

Also, what you can do to generally have faster games is only start new games when you play the most. For example, if you generally play at 3:00PM, but ocasionally do a single turn at night, make sure to start all you games at 3:00PM. That way, you can get people who play the same time of day as you and will probably get in more turns during your normal hours.

Every competitive game like this will be like that if you start out with good knowledge and skill. Once you start playing people closer to your akill level it will be much better.
