Botulism is caused by an anaerobic bacteria, which produces spores, which produce toxins, which cause botulism. It is extremely heat resistent, so it's not killed through normal cooking. This is one good reason to avoid dented cans of Spam, particularly if they're bulging. Live your life as more than plastic. |

The spores grow into the bacteria if conditions are right and then the bacteria produces the toxins and spores. There hasn't been an outbreak of that from Spam before. If Spam wasn't safe, the FDA would've warned us. But im not gonna pressure you into eating it if you don't want to. I hear there's a secret Mobi hidden here somewhere… |

RE: Last post wins.
Don't get me wrong, I like Spam, but not botulism. It's commonly found in dented cans, or food that has been improperly jarred or canned at home. And it's far from harmless. It's why you don't feed infants honey or corn syrup, it's found in those and can be particularly deadly to those with lesser immune systems.

RE: Last post wins.
Jars usually have lids that pop up if the seal breaks and they warn you to not purchase it if it happens.
The CDC warns the public about outbreaks like the salmonella outbreak and E coli outbreak. I hear there's a secret Mobi hidden here somewhere… |
