Winter World Cup WINNER - poweewee (Philippines)
OUTWITTERS WORLD CUP - WINTER 2013
Six months later the Winter World Cup is finally over! Congratulations to poweewee (PHI) for winning the gold! Congratulations also to GreatGonzales and ^ thrutchy ^ for being runners up! Thanks to OML for supporting this tournament, it's been fun The final match: outwitters://viewgame?id=ag5vdXR3aXR0ZXJzZ2FtZXIRCxIIR2FtZVJvb20Y--nnAww All Elimination Round matches are also available at the bottom of this point. Cheers! WINNERS 1st Place - poweewee (PHI) - $25 iTunes Gift Certificate Card and Most Respect 2nd Place - GreatGonzales (USA) - $15 iTunes Gift Certificate Card and Some Respect 3rd Place - ^ thrutchy ^ (USA) - $10 iTunes Gift Certificate Card and Hints of Respect WORLD CUP STANDINGS GROUP PLAY DETAILS CONSOLATION ELIMINATION ROUND Matchups in the consolation elimination round were based on performance in the group play. Those pages can still be found in my attachment of Post #397 on this thread. QUALIFIER STANDINGS QUALIFIER PLAYOFFS Prizes A big THANKS to Adam and Alex for putting up the prizes for the tournament! Eligibility: To be eligible for the prizes you must be at least 13 years of age and provide a valid e-mail address for the prizes to be sent to. This information will be verified once the tournament reaches 16 remaining people. Format There will be three phases of the tournament. The qualifiers, the group play, and the elimination round. The group play and elimination rounds will follow very closely to the original World Cup, with some minor improvements to how scoring will be done in the Group Play round. The Qualifier and Group Play rounds will have strict time limits to ensure the tournament moves at a steady pace. The top player from each group of the Qualifiers will advance to the Group Play round. The runner-up from each group of the Qualifiers will advance to the Consolation Group Play round. The top two players in each group of the Group Play round will advance to the Elimination Round. The top two players in each group of the Consolation Group Play round will advance to the Consolation Elimination Round. The two finalists of the Consolation Elimination Round will play with the two losers of the semi-finals of the Elimination Round (i.e., 3rd and 4th place) in a 4-person Single Elimination bracket. The winner of this bracket will be the winner of the consolation (3rd place) prize. So if you finished 2nd in your group in the Qualifiers, the best you can do in the overall tournament is 3rd place. This is the best way I can think of to keep as much of the original rules as possible, while still allowing participation from 2nd placers in the Qualifiers. Qualifiers Participants will be split up into 32 different groups by seed. Each player will play one game against each player in his/her group. Maps and player order have been randomly assigned. Depending on your group, each player will play 6 or 7 simultaneous games. Qualifiers.pdf in the attachments shows all the information you need for the Qualifiers. In the Qualifiers.pdf file, find your name in one of the 32 groups. Going across the row from your name are all your P1 games on the specified map against the player listed at the top of that column. Each player will have 3 or 4 P1 games, and the rest P2 games. You should have no two games on the same map. Please start all your games as soon as possible!! If you do not have the map pack for a game you are required to start, let your opponent know (via PM or in-game chat) and see if they can start the game on that map instead. If neither of you can play on the given map you will need to agree on a map together. TIEBREAKERS Two-way ties will be broken by looking at head-to-head. Three-way ties will be broken by the Sonneborn-Berger score (i.e., beating opponents with better records). In the case of a full on 3-way tie, each player will play 4 playoff games (2 against each player, one as P1 and the other as P2). These 4 games will be scored in the exact same way as the Group Play round. All Qualifier tiebreaker games will be played on Reaper. TIME LIMITS The tournament will officially start February 1st, so all games MUST be started by then! Of course, if you can start your games even earlier that would be better! ALL games must be completed by February 21st. The time limit for each turn is 48 hours, which will come into effect if a game was not completed by Feb 21st. If at any point you see that your opponent has not made a move in "2 days" on your games list, take a screenshot of it. If this game is not completed by Feb 21st, simply send me the screenshot instead of the replay and you will be awarded the win (make sure to give me all the other information listed below in "REPORTING MATCHES" as well). If the game is not finished by the 21st and both players have screenshots of their opponent showing "2 days" of waiting, it will be considered a double-forfeit. Games that go beyond 21 days where both players have been active will be allowed up to one week of additional time as long as someone lets me know. If nobody has reported or said anything about the game, it will also be considered a double-forfeit. These will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis. REPORTING MATCHES (READ THIS!) DO NOT post individual game results onto this thread. For those of you who can do math that would be almost 900 games, and that's without double-reporting. You have two options for reporting your games: 1. EMAIL me at "awpertunity@gmail.com" with the subject line "World Cup Results" the results of each game in the following format: Group Number Player 1 (and seed number please!) Player 2 (and seed number please!) Map Winner Replay link MAKE SURE to email me from the SAME email address when reporting your games. 2. Save all the results of your games on your desktop somewhere (i.e., a Notepad file), and only post your results here on this thread once ALL your games have been completed using the same format above for each game. Individual games posted on this thread will NOT be reported. Group Play Players will be put into 16 groups of 4. Each player plays against each player in his/her respective group two times. Top 2 players in each group of the Group Play and Consolation Group Play rounds advance to the Elimination and Consolation Elimination rounds, respectively. Every player will play a single "match" against all three other players in his or her respective group. A match is a pair of games, with each player starting as First Player on the map displayed in the attached details.pdf file. HOW TO READ THE STANDINGS MP = Matches Played W = Wins (winning both games in a match) D = Draws (winning one game and losing one game in a match) L = Losses (losing both games in a match) PF = Game Points For PA = Game Points Against +/- = Game Point Differential Game Points For are awarded in the following way. A player winning a match (winning both games against the same player) will be awarded 5 PF. In the event of a tie, PF is awarded based on the difference in the number of turns it took for the winner to settle the match. PA is the opposite of PF. 0 turn difference - 0 PF 1-4 turn difference - 1 PF 5-8 turn difference - 2 PF 9-12 turn difference - 3 PF 13+ turn difference - 4 PF So for example, if player A beats player B in 11 turns, but loses in 17 turns on the same map, the match is considered a tie; however, player A will receive 2 PF because of the 6 turn difference. PTS = Total Points This is the number one criteria for determining Group Rankings. Wins are worth 3 PTS, Draws are 1 PTS, and Losses are 0 PTS. Ties will be broken in the following order 1) Game Point Differential 2) Head-to-head 3) Head-to-head turn difference TIME LIMITS The Group Play Round will officially start March 7th, so please try to start your games by then! Of course, if you can start your games even earlier that would be better! ALL games must be completed by April 3rd. The time limit for each turn is 48 hours, which will come into effect if a game is not completed by April 3rd. There will be a 3-day grace period so as long as games are started by March 10th it will be okay, but please start them ASAP. Since all games come in pairs now, you should be able to talk to your opponent if he has accepted your game but not invited you. If at any point you see that your opponent has not made a move in "2 days" on your games list, take a screenshot of it. If this game is not completed by April 3rd, simply send me the screenshot instead of the replay and you will be awarded the win (make sure to give me all the other information listed below in "REPORTING MATCHES" as well). If the game is not finished by the 3rd and both players have screenshots of their opponent showing "2 days" of waiting, it will be considered a double-forfeit. Games that go beyond April 3rd where both players have been active will be allowed up to one week of additional time as long as someone lets me know. If nobody has reported or said anything about the game, it will also be considered a double-forfeit. These will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis. REPORTING MATCHES (READ THIS!) You have two options for reporting your games: 1. EMAIL me at "awpertunity@gmail.com" with the subject line "World Cup Results" the results of each game in the following format: Player 1 Player 2 Map Winner Number of turns (IMPORTANT) Replay link 2. Post each game here on this thread with the above format. MAP ASSIGNMENTS There will only be 3 maps in rotation for the Group Play round. The map pool for the Group Play round is Sweetie Plains Thorn Gulley Long Nine Elimination Round From here on it will be a simple 16-person single elimination tournament. Best of 3 until the finals, best of 5 for the finals. Each round before the finals has one map listed and one map in parenthesis. Each player is to start a game on the first map listed, and the map in parenthesis is considered the "tiebreaker" map. In the interest of time, all 3 games will be started simultaneously. P1 in the tiebreaker map will be given to whoever performed better in the Group Play round (naturally will be the 1st placers in the RO 16). If there is a tie (i.e., same place in group, and same exact PTS and game point differential, P1 will be given to the higher seeded player on the original Participants list). TIME LIMITS: There will be no date deadline for these games. There will be a soft deadline of 2 days in case your game is one of the last ones to finish. Please try to take your turns as quickly as possible to help keep the tournament moving.
