Why are they called 'runners'? - Kaj_Z - 07-20-2012 08:19 AM

I would think scout would be the much more intuitive name. Runner seems so non-violent, which is certainly not the case. What was the thought process the devs went through?

Runner (noun) - a runner is something or someone that can travel at a high speed without assistance.

Runners from Mirrors Edge are also messengers, and runners in outwitters definitely can give us intel.

Simply "scout" would make it so harmless and make it such a generic video game name. Having runner can mean different things and also adds a touch of unique.

Scout would make outwitters such a generic video game. However, "Soldier" "Heavy" "Medic" and "Sniper" don't.

I think that is just a name they settled on.

The names do make the game seem a bit like team fortress 2 though XD

Because that's what the small, fast aliens were called in AvP 2. This is a serious answer.
