I think I know why it didn't work. The 2v2 matching system finds P1 first, then P2, then P3, then P4. But we really failed because of birds are dumb, who chose a bad time to start tons of games.

Thats correct: you need to get "waiting for player" text for your teammate slot.
Then yell for skillful random players where ever you can.
But there is no telling how close your hidden ranking is ...
When your rank is at absolute top, matchmaking finds no one to play against you (quite often), therefore number ones do get matched against newbies (or just about who ever was there).
It has been elobarated before - having a match is prioritized against waiting indefinitely to have better matched one. Also random against arranged was choice - to have matches in a first place.

As a random Super Titan I get matched against arranged Super Titans, then waiting to get paired with someone of my level. But it is now 13 hours since opponent did their turn I am likely to be paired with anyone pretty soon.

You realize if you start at the same time in the same level of the league pool in 2v2 random you'd be opponents right? You'd need to make sure one person starts between you two each time to end up on the same team lol

yeah.
though if we got matched against an arranged team we would be partners. And as it turns out, birda are dumb ruined our plan anyways.
