About a year ago, when I discovered the forums, I had a game going with each team, both 1v1 & 2v2. Thinking about heading back to my roots. League ranking be damned.

judging from the length of the first 3 months it's clear that a bit on insight is needed in order to find the length of the 4th season. Luckily when we biject the problem to a context-free monoid whose elements are combinatorial
pushdown automata the problem becomes quite trivial so I will leave the rest of the solution to you.

So you get 1 placement match? So if 2 ST players play and 1 loses, will he start in Master? Or is the placement match kind of only relevant if you are on the borderline between 2 divisions?

The placement match has no more relevance than any other math you play
