To be fair, this does happen in 1v1. My 5 placements put me into Gifted, then one more win put me into Masters.
More on subject, I think it is fair to assume that each pair has a hidden rating associated with it. It wouldn't be too much extra storage, just a few more algorithms on the back-end, most likely.

Yeah my post was originally meant to be a "what if...?" clause rather than a "I just proved this right" one.
I'm into databases and (backend) programming myself so I was well aware that there are ways to do it. Maybe a little cumbersome, though, possibly preventing them from having such hidden skill ratings because there were more important things to do.
I wasn't aware of the fact that you can get into Master league with a 6-win streak, though! :O

I went 4:1 in my 5 1v1 placement matches and got placed in Masters... >.>

Yeah, their list of things they want to do is probably ever-growing, I assume. Although, the game is pretty amazing as it is!
Yup - 6-win streak did it for me. Now the trick is getting into ST..

Actually, I was talking about 1v1. 5 placement wins into Gifted and another win into Masters. I don't have any experience in 2v2.. just waiting for a partner I like.
