Honey, I Blew Up the Turrets

by

Tilt to Live HD‘s ¡Viva la Turret! expansion has come together at last. It’s a 99¢ In-App Purchase for those who already own the Full Version, just like its little brother was. For demo users, the Full Version IAP will be going up to $4.99 USD, and will now include Viva la Turret right off the bat (to simplify things). At face value the gametype feels pretty similar to the iPhone version, but you’ll notice some important gameplay differences as you’re swiveling for survival.

The walls are farther apart.

Big deal, right? Right! Assuming you were not being sarcastic. You may not realize it, but a lot of dots in the iPhone version die from being smashed against the walls by the Perforator’s shockwave. In HD, depending on your turret’s position, a lot of that smashing isn’t going to happen. What will happen is you’ll push the same dots back again and again, and they’ll start closing in faster and faster.

The jewels are farther apart.

How long does it take you to make a trip around your iPhone screen? Not long, so it’s not unheard of to collect every jewel you create. The HD arena is about 4x the size, so you’ll find it much riskier to be OCD with your jewel collecting. More often than not, you’ll have to learn to let go.

Get to da Perforatah!

Developing Turrets HD, we noticed the extra screen real estate made being outside the turret feel a bit too safe. To spice things up, we’ve added a cruel new wave that only appears when you’re unarmed. It’s guaranteed to make you forget your jewels and run for the nearest weapon.

We’re submitting the update to Apple tonight, so you can expect ¡Viva la Turret! to reach your iPad before the end of the month.

It’ll be interesting to see how this plays on the iPad screen. I’m terrible at the iPhone version. Having no protection while inside the turret leads to me being over ran by the dot’s.

Is there a reason you decided to leave the lid open on the turret? Is it to force us out into the open more? Sure makes the game super hard to me.

Apple seems to be very slow about pushing out updates right now. Hopefully they get 1.3.1 out soonish.

  2. Gertjaars says:

Sweet 😀 looking forward to this update 🙂 Got 6.6m now in VLT for the iPhone

  3. Someone says:

Hey, I’m not sure if this is a bug or something, but the game prevents my iPod from going into sleep mode, which causes battery drain. How does spinning icons and a drum beat cause so much battery drain?

    P.S. VlT: 4.6 mil.

  4. Someone says:

    Not vit! Stupid sans-serif font.

  5. Nate says:

    So. Damn. Excited!

I never officially submitted the bug, but I’m hoping this version fixes the bug brought by the last HD update. Where the red dots turn white once they die and stick around on the screen for a bit. (They’re harmless, but definitely distracting.)

Oh, and the music will sometimes drop out completely and I’m just left with the sound effects. (Fixed by a force close of the app.)

  6. Jarod says:

@Nate the update to fix the 1.3 bugs is already in Apples hands. It just seems Apple is taking forever to approve it.

  7. Will says:

The white dot thing? That’s been happening to me for months on the iPod version.

  8. Adam says:

There’s a harmless white dot thing that happens occasionally on iPhone. There’s a problematic white dot thing in the current version of HD, though, and it’s affecting people’s scores. Like Jarod said, the fix is in review.

  9. Nate says:

Out of curiosity, how has it been affecting scores specifically? (I’m a nerd for details.) Can/will scores be retroactively adjusted? I thought I saw a negative high score at one point, but I might have just been playing too long. =P

  10. Jarod says:

@Nate it would leave parts of the “maze” pattern on screen among others. These dots would be white and wouldn’t move. They couldn’t kill you but you could kill them repeatedly and they wouldn’t disappear. In other words run a burnicade over them and it would be like you where killing thousands of dots a second. Needless to say the combo counter would go crazy.

  11. Someone says:

@Jarod: Well, it’s one way to get the (x1337 combo) achievement.

  12. Jarod says:

@Someone yeah that was easy enough on the iPad anyway with the “Maze” and “Full Screen” dot patterns. You either had to kill them quick or die.

@Adam what this post needs is a video of the iPad version.

    horrible game

  14. Someone says:

@James: You’re a horrible person, but you don’t hear us complaining.

  15. Randy says:

When is this update coming out?
Just because you said it’ll be out before the end of the month doesn’t mean that you have to push it to the end.

  16. Adam says:

We’re not really “pushing it”. It’s being approved by Apple. As soon as it gets the okay, it’s out. We didn’t give a date because we have no idea.

  17. Randy says:

    Oh, alright. Thanks. 😀

  18. Jarod says:

Tomorrow will be two weeks since this was submitted. Apple annoys me with their approval times. So inconsistent it must be frustrating to deal with them as a developer.

  19. Randy says:

I think you should re-send the update to apple. Just in case it got lost or something.

  20. Jarod says:

    1.4 is out now.

  22. Randy says:

There’s a slight glitch in the game that involves the turret. When you use the turret in code red (I haven’t tried it in classic) and a vortex is near you, the vortex sucks you in while your in the turret. So whe you get out of the turret you appear in the middle of the vortex.
